The Roseburg City Council will consider a resolution declaring an emergency due to the recent severe weather event and related flooding at its meeting Monday night.
Notes to councilors said the rain event of March 16th caused significant damage in a number of areas. The Public Works Department continues to evaluate and prioritize necessary repairs. So far, the department has identified nearly $2.3 million in damage to storm drainage and roadway systems inside the city. This does not include the cost of the initial response effort. At this point, staff said it is not clear if any state or federal funding will become available. Both the Douglas County Commissioners and Governor Tina Kotek have declared emergencies.
The council will vote on authorizing the city manager to execute an amendment for FAA Grant #031 in an amount of up to fifteen percent. This is for a taxiway extension project that is set to begin next month at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
Councilors will vote on authorizing a task order with Consor North America for design and bidding services for phase 4 of the 24-inch transmission main from Newton Creek Drive to Emerald Drive at a cost not to exceed just under $345,000.
A number of other items are on the agenda as well. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers on Southeast Douglas Avenue. The meeting can be viewed on the city’s Facebook page or seen later at www.cityofroseburg.org
