BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING

March 24, 2025 3:50 a.m.

Covering coastal Douglas County:

The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement which is in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning for beaches in Douglas, Coos and Curry counties.

Forecasters said sneaker waves can run up significantly farther on beaches than normal, including over rocks and jetties. These waves can suddenly knock people off of their feet and quickly pull them into the cold ocean waters, resulting in serious injury or death. Waves may also lift driftwood logs, trapping anyone caught underneath.

The risk will be highest on west facing beaches, especially early Tuesday morning.

Forecasters said beach goers should avoid climbing on rocks and jetties. Stay away from the ocean and remain out of the water to avoid hazardous conditions.
