WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through 5:00 p.m. Thursday for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 16 inches with the highest totals in the central Cascades and lower totals in the Siskiyou Mountains. Winds will gust as high as 40 miles per hour over high and exposed terrain.

The Advisory area includes elevations above 5,000 feet in the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. It applies to Howard Prairie, Lake of the Woods, the Mt. Ashland Ski Area, Crescent Lake, the Siskiyou Summit, Crater Lake and Diamond Lake as well as highways 140, 62, 138 and 230.

Forecasters said travel could be difficult during the winter event. This is the first of two systems. The second system on Friday will also produce impactful weather for the higher terrain.
