Sunday’s rain led to Deer Creek in southeast Roseburg reaching an all-time high crest of 15.93 feet.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the peak was achieved at 3:45 p.m. The previous record crest for Deer Creek was 15.4 feet, which took place on December 6th, 1981.
Sunday afternoon Southeast Douglas Avenue, which is next to the creek, had a number of homes impacted by the water. One resident said he finally left his residence when the water level got to four feet deep. At least one other man didn’t want to leave home, which was surrounded by the creek, but eventually did allow he and his family to be rescued by the Roseburg Fire Department. At least two sections of the road were blocked due to rain coming over the street.
By 9:00 a.m. Monday the creek was at 6.5 feet.
