Sutherlin Police jailed a man for resisting arrest, assaulting a public safety officer, and second-degree criminal trespass early Sunday.

An SPD report said just after 5:00 a.m. a caller reported that a man was seen on security cameras in the 1800 block of Ridge Water Drive. An officer responded along with a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy and 35-year-old Preston Torguson was located on the property.

Torguson allegedly physically resisted arrest, jumped a fence and ran off. Officers attempted to tase him, but it was not effective. The man got on his bike and started to ride away when the deputy tackled him off the bike into a bush along the driveway. Torguson started to get up, was tased, and tackled again by the deputy. He reportedly tried to get up and continued to fight for several minutes but was eventually taken into custody and taken to jail. Torguson was detained without bail.
