A Riddle man was jailed for a reported elude and DUII incident on Saturday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just after 10:30 p.m. 19-year-old Andrew Gaskins was called in as driving intoxicated after he left a residence in Riddle.
A deputy was responding to another incident when he came up behind Gaskin’s vehicle, which was allegedly all over the road. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Pruner Road and Weaver Road, Gaskin’s reportedly took off towards a business near Interstate 5 at a high rate of speed. His vehicle immediately ran into the back of a victim’s vehicle. The car continued about 400 yards before coming to a stop. Gaskins was taken into custody without incident.
The man allegedly showed clear signs of impairment and admitted to drinking. He was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle hit was uninjured. Gaskins was cleared from Mercy and taken to jail. He was charged with attempting to elude officers in a vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants and failure to perform the duties of a driver with property damage. Gaskins was detained without bail.
