A Glendale man was jailed for a felony count of fail to register as a sex offender on Thursday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 11:40 p.m. a deputy stopped a pickup for traffic violations near the intersection of Main Street and Chief Miwaleta Lane in Canyonville. The deputy knew the 38-year-old in the vehicle was out of compliance as he had lived at an address other than his registered address for several months without updating his sex offender registration.

The man allegedly exited the passenger side of the vehicle and attempted to leave. He was advised that he was not free to leave. During the investigation, the man informed the deputy that he had only lived at the newer address for eight days. This was deemed to be untrue by several people the deputy contacted. The man’s Oregon ID also had the address where he was really residing listed on it.

The deputy told the man that his story was unreasonable and took him into custody. He was detained without bail.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old woman was cited for a violation count of driving while suspended.
