In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:

It is time for the spring musical at Roseburg High School.

The RHS Theatre and Film Department will present “Mamma Mia!” on stage, starting this Friday night. The smash hit musical is based on the songs of ABBA. Drama instructor Troy Pennington said about 60 students are involved including actors, a live orchestra, and technology staff. Pennington said it’s a combined effort with the band program and choir program involved as well.

The plot unfolds on a small Greek island where the lead Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding – one which includes her father giving her away. The problem is she doesn’t know who her father is. Since her mother refuses to talk about her past, Sophie takes matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek into her mother’s old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers. She secretly invites all three to the wedding. When they all turn up, it may not be as clear as she thought. Told through the legendary music of ABBA, “Mamma Mia!” has become a worldwide sensation.

The production runs through March 9th, playing Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults. Students that are age 13 and under get in for $5. All students with school identification are admitted for $5.
