In the KQEN Business Spotlight:

After over eight decades in business, national retailer Joann Fabrics and Crafts is closing all its remaining stores in the nation and going out of business. That includes the local store in the Roseburg Marketplace on Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in 12 months in January, citing sluggish sales and inventory issues. On February 14th, Joann’s received court approval to begin closing approximately 500 stores in the U.S. As of late last week, the closure list did not include Roseburg’s store, according to information the company provided to News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN on Saturday.

That changed after the company failed to find a buyer that would keep the rest of its stores open. Information provided to KQEN Tuesday, said financial services company GA Group, along with Joann’s lenders, have acquired the retailer’s assets. Subject to court approval of the transaction, the plan is to wind down ongoing operations and conduct going-out-of-business sales at all Joann’s locations.

A phone message at the Roseburg Joann’s store acknowledged that it was a “very difficult time for team members, customers and the community”. According to an employee, the local store has been open for approximately 10 years and has between 10 and 15 employees.
