Roseburg Police jailed one person and cited two people following an alleged assault incident on Saturday night.
An RPD report said at 11:00 p.m. officers responded to a fight involving multiple people in the 2000 block of Northeast Stephens Street. Officers learned that two 22-year-old men agreed to fight outside and eventually one was knocked out by the other. The fight was essentially over when a 19-year-old man allegedly sucker punched one of the other men, causing him to fall to the ground.
Once on the ground, the suspect reportedly continued to hit and elbow the victim. The suspect claimed he never threatened the victim or did anything to provoke the fight, but felt he should stand up for the third man. The victim sustained a large gash to his eyebrow which was profusely bleeding with his eye swollen shut. The men from the original fight were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for their injuries.
The 19-year-old was taken into custody a short time later. He was charged with second-degree counts of assault and disorderly conduct. The other two men were each cited for second-degree disorderly conduct and were released to the hospital.
