Roseburg Police jailed a man on the charge of 4th degree assault on Sunday night.

An RPD report said at 8:00 p.m. officers responded to the 2700 block of Northeast Douglas Avenue after a suspect allegedly hit a victim over the head with a glass liquor bottle and left the scene on foot. The victim reported that both people had been watching a football game and after it was done, both had walked outside to smoke a cigarette.

The victim claimed that the suspect became irate and threatened to hit the victim over the head with the glass liquor bottle that he was holding. The victim said the other man then smashed the bottle over the victim’s head before walking away from the scene.

Officers were able to speak with a witness at the scene, who confirmed what the victim had reported. The victim had a large lump on his forehead and reported losing consciousness several times after the incident. He ultimately refused medical treatment.

Officers contacted the suspect at his residence a short time later and he confessed to hitting the victim in the head with the bottle, unprovoked. He was taken into custody without incident. Bail was set at $6,250.
