A Coquille man was jailed for being a felon in possession of a firearm on Wednesday afternoon.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:00 p.m. a deputy stopped an SUV for traffic violations on Interstate 5 southbound in the south end of the Myrte Creek area.

The 41-year-old driver stated that he had recently purchased the vehicle. The driver and the other occupant were both suspended so the deputy told them that the vehicle was going to be towed. Both occupants did not take any belongings with them when they left the scene.

The deputy started an inventory search and located a firearm. The driver was recontacted and taken into custody. He was detained without bail.
