A Roseburg teacher is receiving a national honor.
The White House has named Emily Lazur as a recipient of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. PAEMST are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Lazur has 15 years of education experience and has taught at Hucrest Elementary School for the past ten years. She currently teaches second graders across all subjects.
A release from the National Science Foundation said Lazur and others honored will receive $10,000 from the organization, a certificate signed by the President, a trip to Washington D.C. to celebrate her accomplishments and she will join a prestigious cadre of more than 5,200 teacher-alumni from across the nation. While the group is in Washington D.C., they will participate in professional development activities and network with fellow STEM educators from around the U.S.
