A transient was jailed following an incident at a business in Rice Hill on Monday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 8:55 p.m. the 30-year-old was contacted after he allegedly walked out of the store in the 800 block of John Long Road with a coffee tha he did not pay for. The man reportedly threatened to beat up an employee who was trying to trespass him to get the coffee back.
The transient had also not made his annual report for the sex offender registry since 2022. He was charged with third-degree theft, second-degree disorderly conduct and failure to report as a sex offender. The man was detained without bail.
