Crews with the Riddle Fire Protection District responded to a fire at C&D Lumber in Riddle at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Fire Chief Devin Loughridge said first-arriving resources reported the whole end of one of the buildings was on fire with extension to much of the structure. Loughridge said both the first and second story of the building were involved. Suppression efforts were hampered by the building being partially demolished with the stability of the structure being unknown.
Loughridge said after several hours, the final resources cleared the scene. The cause of the fire was smoldering embers from a cutting torch that had not been extinguished.
RFPD was assisted by Tri City Fire, Myrtle Creek Fire, South Umpqua Fire, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Pacific Power and Avista Gas. 19 firefighters were on scene.
