Taggart said in an unrelated investigation, police began looking into another subject identified as 32-year-old Jacob Seth Canfield of La Grande. Canfield allegedly carried on an online relationship with a juvenile female starting on November 18th. Taggart said Canfield reportedly agreed to meet the juvenile for sexual contact, even renting a motel room for the two. On Monday. Canfield drove from La Grande, almost an eight-hour trip, to meet the juvenile. He was taken into custody and charged with online sexual corruption of a child in the first and second-degree and for a warrant. Canfield was detained on $5,000 bail.

Taggart said MCPD would like to thank the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Eugene Police Department, La Grande Police Department and the Oregon State Police for assisting in the investigations.

The MCPD release said parents should monitor their children’s online activities as these cases show that people meaning to do harm to children will travel to do so. Taggart said parents need to know who their kids are communicating with and should monitor their internet usage.
