A single vehicle crash claimed the life of a Roseburg man on Friday night.

Douglas County Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said around 8:00 p.m. dispatchers received a report of the accident on Lookingglass Road near Happy Valley Road, west of Green.

O’Dell said when deputies arrived, they found a coupe that had been traveling north on Lookingglass Road. The driver had failed to negotiate a corner at the intersection with Happy Valley Road, and the vehicle crashed into the embankment.

The driver, identified as 56-year-old Chane Rhae Johnsen, was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was unconscious. Johnsen was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. O’Dell said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor to the crash.
