A Roseburg man was jailed for a reported strangulation incident on Wednesday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 7:00 p.m. both the 41-year-old suspect and the victim contacted dispatchers regarding the incident, in the 200 block of Heritage Loop near the county fairgrounds. The victim reported the man put her into a choke hold during an altercation and she almost passed out.
The man admitted to putting her into a choke hold but claimed that he did so to stop her from breaking things in the house. The suspect said he knew what he was doing, knew the dangers of the hold and was previously an instructor in the Marine Corps.
The man was charged with strangulation and held without bail.
