WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS IN SOUTHERN OREGON

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4:00 p.m. Wednesday to 10:00 a.m. Friday for mountain areas in much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of between 12 to 18 inches, with higher amounts in some locations. Winds will gust as high as 70 miles per hour.

The Advisory area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. It applies to areas north of Highway 140 including Crater Lake National Park, highways 62 and 138, and Highway 51 at Willamette Pass.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.
