HIGH SURF ADVISORY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT

December 21, 2024 8:00 a.m.

Covering coastal Douglas County:

A High Surf Advisory is in effect through Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. for the south-central Oregon coast.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said large breaking waves of 21 to 26 feet are expected.

The Advisory area includes the beaches and shorelines of Douglas, Coos and Curry counties.

Forecasters said extremely large breaking waves will create very hazardous conditions along beaches and shorelines. Waves will inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected.

Hazardous conditions will reach a peak Saturday afternoon and evening. Conditions are expected to become more hazardous late Sunday night through Monday evening due to a strong, building, long period swell. The highest surf is expected Monday morning into Monday afternoon. Conditions are expected to slowly improve on Tuesday.

Forecasters said beaches and coastlines will become hazardous due to very large and life-threatening surf conditions. Residents should stay off beaches, rocks, jetties, piers and other waterside infrastructure.
