EXTENSION WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL MAPPING APPS

December 19, 2024 2:55 a.m.

The Oregon State University Extension Service is holding a workshop on learning how to use digital mapping apps for land management activities.

“Chart the Unknown: Getting Started with Digital Mapping Apps” will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd. The event will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Extension office on Southeast Douglas Avenue, just east of the courthouse.

Using detailed tutorials and hands-on practice, the workshop will teach participants how to get the most out of two commonly available and free digital mapping applications – Avenza Maps and CalTopo. Participants will learn how to use their smart phone or tablet to calculate areas and distances of property features and monitor road problems, insect damage, invasive plants and more. Attendees will also be shown how to create PDF maps using information collected in the field. The outdoor practice sessions will be walking distance from the classroom.

Participants are asked to bring their own smart phone or tablet, and a laptop computer to class.

The cost to attend is $10 per person or $15 for a couple sharing materials.

Registration for the workshop closes on January 20th. The class is limited to 15 people. To register go to: https://beav.es.iHt, email: douglas.extension@oregonstate.edu, or by calling 672-4461.
