A spokesperson for the union representing some of the affected employees at Albertsons in Roseburg says that are trying to help them find new jobs, after company officials announced that the store would close permanently by early in February next year.

UFCW Local 555 Communications Coordinator Miles Eshaia told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN: “UFCW Local 555 is working with the company to secure positions for affected employees at the nearby Safeway store and will also work with members to secure positions at other local union employers”. Eshaia said, “We encourage the community to support union businesses like Sherm’s and Safeway. We are committed to ensuring our members are taken care of during this transition”.

Officials with Albertson’s said the location was being closed because it is an “underperforming store”.  While the building housing Albertsons was constructed in 2001, the chain has had a store in Roseburg since at least the mid-1970s. Over 80 employees are seeking a new job.
