A man died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound after a Roseburg Police stop near downtown on Tuesday morning.
An RPD report said at about 7:30 a.m. RPD detectives and police officers attempted to make contact and arrest 47-year-old Eric Iaron Bobo, regarding an alleged sexual assault.
Public Information Officer Sergeant Daniel Allen said as officers tried to contact Bobo, they heard what sounded like a single gunshot from inside the man’s vehicle. Allen said after several attempts and no communication from Bobo, a drone was deployed and observed no movement from Bobo inside the vehicle.
Officers approached the vehicle and determined Bobo was deceased. Detectives and the Douglas County Medicolegal Death Investigator took over the scene.
Allen said the alleyway between the 900 blocks of Southeast Pine Street and Southeast Stephens Street was affected for approximately two hours. There is no ongoing threat to the public. No additional information will be provided at this time.
Allen said RPD would like to thank DCSO and Umpqua Valley Ambulance for their assistance.
