December 17, 2024 10:55 a.m.

Five people were cited for prohibited camping after being contacted in three incidents at Gaddis Park in the 800 block of Northwest Highland Street on Monday.

A Roseburg Police report said at 9:00 a.m. three people ranging in age from 22 to 43 were separately contacted at their camps. All were set up in a prohibited area and during a prohibited time.

At 1:30 p.m. a 46-year-old man was contacted in his camp which was located about ten feet from the edge of a small creek. The creek feeds the South Umpqua River about 150 feet away. There was a large amount of trash around the camp site, which violated the time, place, and manner portions of the prohibited camping ordinance. The man was cited on the scene and instructed to clean up his mess.

At 2:10 p.m. a 71-year-old was contacted at his camp, which was attached to fencing along Interstate 5, just south of Garden Valley Boulevard, along the bike path.

All five people were released after being issued their citations.
