Douglas County government has announced two holiday closures.
A county release said Commissioners Chris Boice, Tim Freeman and Tom Kress would like to remind citizens that government offices located at the courthouse, on Southeast Douglas Avenue in Roseburg, as well as the Justice Building, courthouse annex in Reedsport, transfer stations, fairgrounds, museum and all external government offices will be closed to the public on Wednesday, December 25th as well as Wednesday, January 1st. This is in observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day holidays
The Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay will be open on January 1st for normal business hours and tours. Additionally, some county departments might have limited hours or be lightly staffed during the holiday season. Residents should call ahead before visiting to see if the department they need has staff available to provide assistance to them.
The release said as always, even when county government offices are closed, many officials and public employees are still working on special, routine or emergency projects. That includes the commissioners, juvenile staff, public works, emergency management, parks and Salmon Harbor departments. Deputies, 911 communications, and other Sheriff’s Office staff will continue to provide law enforcement protection and emergency assistance for residents. Those who have an emergency can still call 911. To reach dispatch outside of an emergency, call the non-emergency number at 440-4471.
