A transient was jailed after allegedly assaulting deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:40 p.m. a caller said a wanted man was staying at a residence in the 300 block of Alder Street in Yoncalla. A deputy responded and approached the front door, looking into the residence from a glass opening, and observed 42-year-old Edwin Cruger. Cruger was a wanted subject out of the Oregon State Parole Board and Roseburg Police Department for warrants.
When the deputy opened the door, Cruger reportedly opened it slightly. The deputy advised the suspect that he was under arrest and reached in to grab his right arm to take him into physical custody. Cruger allegedly immediately pulled away. He reportedly resisted arrest and was physically violent with two deputies on the scene. The fight caused knee injuries to an involved deputy and facial injuries to Cruger.
Cruger was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center where he was medically cleared by staff. He was then transferred to corrections. Cruger was charged with assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest, parole violation, and for the warrants. He was detained without bail.
