Monday is World AIDS Day, honoring those affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
It was the first ever global health day, established in 1988.
HIV Alliance, in coordination with several community partners, will collaborate on events in Roseburg, Eugene, Medford and Coos Cay throughout the week.
HIV Alliance has been serving the Oregon community for 30 years after several HIV/AIDS organizations merged in 1994, with the mission to support individuals living with HIV and prevent new HIV infections. The agency has continued to grow, offering a range of programs that respond to unmet health needs of people who are living with or are at risk for HIV. The organization now serves more than 1,200 people affected by HIV across 32 Oregon counties.
In Roseburg, A World AIDS Day Remembrance Event will be held Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Umpqua Unitarian Universality Congregation at 2167 Northwest Watters Street. Organizers will share a service to remember those who were lost in Douglas County and honoring community partners that share HIV Alliance’s mission and value.
