Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a Roseburg man following a DUII incident on Tuesday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 11:00 a.m. 24-year-old Michael Douglas Brooks crashed his sedan at the intersection of Roberts Creek Road and Clarks Branch Road, southeast of Green.
The accident caused property damage to a fence. A deputy arrived on the scene and could see Douglas Brooks approximately 300 yards away, standing near the edge of the road. As the deputy began to drive towards him, Douglas Brooks reportedly ran into the woods. Other deputies arrived and after approximately 20 minutes the man exited from the woods.
Douglas Brooks was allegedly visibly intoxicated and refused standard field sobriety tests before being taken into custody. Prior to entering the woods, Douglas Brooks reportedly had a bag of some sort, which he was no longer in possession of when he came out. The man denied having a bag, but after it was located, he said that it contained a pistol. A 9mm pistol was found nearby.
Douglas Brooks became unresponsive in the back seat of the patrol vehicle. Emergency medical responders were contacted, and the man was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. Once at the hospital, his blood alcohol level was determined to be .188 percent. After being medically cleared, Douglas Brooks was jailed on charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, reckless driving, failure to perform the duties of a driver-property damage and unlawful possession/concealment of firearms.
Douglas Brooks was detained without bail.
