The City of Winston has extended the deadline for applying for a vacant position on the city council.
City Manager Thomas McIntosh said only two applications had been received prior to Monday night’s meeting, and only one of those applicants was able to attend. McIntosh said the council has decided to leave the appointment process open until December 2nd with the hope of gaining more applications while also giving the existing applicants the opportunity to participate in the interview process.
A Ward II seat is open following the recent resignation of Alesha Anderson, who is moving out of the area. The term expires at the end of 2026.
Those interested can submit an application listing their qualifications, interests and why they would like to be on the council. Applicants must have lived in Ward II for at least 12 months prior to the date of the appointment.
A precinct map and application are available on the Winston city website: www.winstoncity.org. Applicants should be prepared to attend the city council meeting on December 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
