Roseburg City Council will consider a change in Legion Field management as part of its meeting Monday night.
The city has a long-standing relationship with the Roseburg American Legion Baseball Commission related to the operation of Bill Gray Stadium in Stewart Park. That commission has requested the assignment of their agreements to a new non-profit organization, currently being led by Umpqua Community College. An agreement with the Legion Commission has been in place for decades. A separate agreement related to the artificial turf on Legion Field was approved in 2017. In August, staff hosted a meeting of interested parties to discuss the proposed assignment. The Legion Commission said it finds their membership aging and dwindling in numbers. In order to keep the facility operating successfully, they reached out to UCC, which led to the new organization being formed. In October, the Parks Commission recommended that the council approve assigning both agreements to the Douglas County Baseball Association.
Councilors will also vote on granting preliminary approval to Umpqua Actors Community Theatre on a conceptual expansion and renovation plan for the Betty Long Unruh Theatre.
A number of other items are on the agenda. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers. It can be viewed on the city’s Facebook page, or seen later at www.cityofroseburg.org
