November 18, 2024 4:00 a.m.

A Flood Potential Outlook for rapid river rises and possible debris flows is in place for area rivers and streams in western Douglas, Coos, Curry and Josephine counties.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said an atmospheric river will likely target the area, bringing a long duration of moderate to heavy rains. The highest rainfall amounts are expected for Curry County. At times, rainfall rates could approach an inch an area briefly. That means area burn scars may need to be paid extra attention.

A flood potential outlook is issued when there is the potential for significant rises or flooding along rivers and streams. The exact scenario for flooding remains uncertain, although the Coquille River near Coquille will be approaching a minor flood. In addition, Curry County will likely see 8 inches of rain through the week.
