A Drain man was jailed following a DUII/hit and run incident Monday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 7:25 p.m. deputies responded to a crash in the 100 block of B Avenue in Drain, where the driver allegedly got out of his pickup and ran from the scene. Deputies determined that the vehicle hit the railroad crossing pole, sheered it off at the bottom, and then landed on the railroad tracks.

The registered owner of the vehicle, a 36-year-old man, lived just a couple of blocks away from the wreck, which was the direction the man had ran towards. The owner was contacted at his residence and told the deputy he had run from the accident because he was drunk.

The man consented to standard field sobriety tests and allegedly performed poorly. He provided a breath sample which showed a blood alcohol level of .09 percent. The man was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and failure to perform the duties of a driver. He was detained without bail and was released on Tuesday.
