Two transients were jailed after an alleged store burglary on Thursday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 11:00 p.m. a business owner said he could see a man attempting to break into his store, in the 5500 block of Northeast Stephen Street in Winchester, via his security cameras.

The caller reported a man standing in front of the store glass door, slamming some type of object into the glass. He advised that there was a second person who could be seen next to the person that was breaking the glass.

A deputy was nearby and quickly arrived at the store and detained a 21-year-old, as he was walking away from the business. When a second deputy arrived, 32-year-old Markus Miller was located hiding behind newspaper vending machines. Miller was taken into custody without incident. He reportedly admitted to using methamphetamine. Miller was charged with second-degree attempted burglary, first and third-degree counts of criminal mischief, offensive littering and unlawful possession of meth. Miller was detained without bail.

The deputy later spoke to the younger man, who initially provided a false name. He stated that he watched Miller break the window. The man was on probation and had a no intoxicating substance clause. He was allegedly very intoxicated. He was charged with a probation violation and was detained without bail.
