ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL MAN FOR BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

Roseburg Police jailed a man for being a felon in possession of a firearm on Sunday.

An RPD report said at 6:50 p.m. officers saw the 22-year-old walking on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard and knew he was wanted by his probation officer. The man immediately took off running and ran through traffic while trying to get away. He stopped after running for approximately 300 yards and was detained without further issue.

The suspect told the officer that he had a small baggie of fentanyl with him but denied further search. Upon arrival at corrections, officers allegedly found a loaded handgun magazine in the backseat of the patrol vehicle, which the man admitted was his. Officers returned to the area where the man had been detained and requested a K-9. K-9 Nike conducted an article search in the area and reportedly found a loaded handgun matching the magazine in the bushes closed to where the man was taken into custody.

The man was also detained due to a warrant. He was cited for unlawful possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Bail was set at $6,250.
