One person was hospitalized following a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday night, which was caused by a cow.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just after 9:00 p.m. a 39-year-old Canyonville woman was traveling eastbound in the 6000 block of Tiller Trail Highway near Klooster Lane in the Canyonville area. A cow stepped out of a ditch into the roadway, causing the driver to slam on her brakes.

A 48-year-old Milo man was operating a vehicle right behind the first one and did not have time to stop, resulting in his vehicle crashing into the back of the other one. The second vehicle was occupied by 8 other passengers. A 19-year-old was seated in the back passenger seat and suffered an injury. She was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center and was listed in fair condition at last check, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The first driver was cited for driving while suspended-violation and driving uninsured. A deputy will be doing a follow up to locate the owner of the cow. That person will be issued a livestock at large citation.
