WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY WITH LOCAL EVENTS THIS WEEK

The 28th annual National Walk & Roll to School Day is Wednesday and some schools in Douglas County have events planned for this week or later in the month.

Janelle James of Safe Routes to School and Thrive Umpqua said the local events include:

Tuesday, Tri City Elementary is hosting the event for the first time. James said the school has applied for an infrastructure grant with Douglas County Public Works and is committed to making improvements to the walkability of the school. Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. at TJ’s Market on Old Pacific Highway.

Other events include:

*Wednesday Yoncalla Elementary School will meet at Yoncalla Public Library on Birch Street at 7:55 a.m.

*Thursday Sunnyslope Elementary School in Green will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the end of its sports field on Austin Road.

*Thursday Fullerton IV Elementary School in Roseburg will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of West Sharp Avenue and West Berdine Street.

*October 18th Green Elementary School will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Goin’ Postal on Carnes Road in Green.

*October 18th Eastwood Elementary School will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Abby’s Legendary Pizza on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard.
