A Roseburg man was jailed following a lengthy pursuit incident on Wednesday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 11:10 p.m. a deputy observed a driver commit a traffic violation while traveling on Speedway Road near the intersection with Manor Loop in Green. The deputy activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.
The report said the vehicle drove through a stop sign and failed to maintain its lane. A pursuit was initiated, and the vehicle headed toward Roseburg on Highway 99 traveling at speeds of approximately 60 miles per hour. Once Highway 99 turned into Southeast Stephens Street, a Roseburg Police officer and a deputy successfully deployed spike strips.
The vehicle continued through Roseburg, headed to Melrose and went out Longs Ranch Road. Once towards the top, the vehicle’s tires were flat if not gone. Ultimately the tires were spinning but the vehicle was no longer moving.
After several minutes of telling the driver to exit the vehicle, he complied. The man, identified as 35-year-old Rodolfo Loera, had warrants for his arrest that were confirmed. He was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle, reckless driving, reckless endangering, and for the warrants. Loera was detained without bail.
