Winston Police jailed a man following a stand-off incident which began late Sunday evening.

A WPD report said shortly after 10:00 p.m. officers responded to a criminal trespass call at the Douglas County Farmers Co-op in the 800 block of Abraham Avenue. Employees advised that a male subject was being confrontational with them when they asked him to move off the property, since they were trying to close up for the evening. The man was identified as 39-year-old Jason Edinger of Grants Pass. Edinger was parked in the store’s parking lot in his sedan.

The report said officers attempted to talk to Edinger and asked him to leave the premises, but he was instantly hostile and uncooperative. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene to assist. Edinger continued to refuse to cooperate. Police units tried to de-escalate the situation by waiting for the suspect to leave on his own accord. Edinger did not leave and instead began to throw his belongings from his vehicle, throwing them all over the parking lot.

Edinger then barricaded himself in his vehicle, allegedly flipping off officers, screaming, playing his stereo and honking his horn. Ultimately after several hours of failed attempts to communicate with Edinger, and repeated attempts to gain compliance, CS gas was deployed into the vehicle. Edinger then exited his vehicle naked. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Edinger was taken to corrections where he was charged with second-degree counts of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, third-degree criminal mischief and offensive littering. He was detained without bail.
