The Oregon State University Extension Service Office will have a Master Food Preservers workshop with an unlikely title, coming up in October.

“Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse and 100 Other Far More Likely Disasters” will be presented at the Camas Valley Grange on October 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

An Extension release said failure to plan for disasters can have grave consequences. Although the zombies probably aren’t coming, this workshop will help residents prepare for fires, heat waves, earthquakes and other potential disasters that are not fun to contemplate.

Attendees will get help devising plans for long-term power outages, and bone up on safe food storage, water storage, purification methods and waste disposal. The workshop will provide a budget-friendly approach which will help people make incremental changes to be ready for challenging situations.
