A transient was jailed following an alleged trespass and theft incident Friday morning.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at approximately 8:20 a.m. a deputy was in the parking lot of a business in the 2600 block of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg when he was approached by an employee who said she witnessed a man stealing an item off a trailer at a nearby business.

The deputy exited the patrol vehicle and located a man in close proximity who was pulling a space heater toward another business. The owner of impacted business was yelling at the suspect to return the item. The deputy told the suspect to stop and walk back to him. He complied and stated that he had permission to take the space heater. The business owner disagreed and later asked that the man be arrested for trespass.

The suspect, identified as a 34-year-old transient, was charged with second-degree trespass and third-degree theft. He was detained without bail.
