The Devil’s Knob Fire is 78 percent contained and of midday Saturday.
Due to decreased fire activity and increased containment, Complex Incident Management Team NW 13 will transition the fire to a Type 3 team Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. The managed information line is being downsized to reflect this change.
Air operations coordinated the use of 26 aircraft through the duration of this incident of which 13 were helicopters. These air resources dropped 380,000 gallons of water and 26,000 gallons of retardant in 166 hours of flight time.
Crews are completing mop up operations and will continue patrolling, monitoring and conducting suppression repair. Within the perimeter, an unburned island was assessed for the potential of fire activity. This area has high fuel moisture, making fire growth unlikely. Crews dispersed accumulated dead and down limbs to decrease probability of ignition.
Fire activity is expected to gradually increase in exposed areas where unburned fuels are near heat sources, which may contribute to visible smoke in the area.
