The 40th annual Umpqua River Cleanup is set for Sunday, October 13th.
Organized by Umpqua Watersheds and supported by Thrive Umpqua, Native Fish Society, and SOLVE, community members are invited to spend the day making a positive impact on the river’s health.
A Watersheds release said volunteers will have the opportunity to help protect and preserve one of Oregon’s most beautiful and vital waterways, from the headwaters to the sea.
Over the past four decades, the Umpqua River Cleanup has become a tradition, drawing people of all ages who are passionate about protecting the environment. This year marks a special milestone as organizers celebrate the 40th anniversary of the clean up effort.
Volunteers will fan out across multiple sections of the Umpqua River to pick up litter, remove invasive plants, and clear debris. Participants can contact the coordinator in their area for more information, or to receive direction and help for removing trash in that area.
Those taking part are encouraged to bring gloves, water bottles, sunscreen and clothing suited for outdoor activities. If needed, trash bags are available at the Umpqua Watersheds office on Southeast Main Street in downtown Roseburg.
