Containment continues to rise on the Devil’s Knob and Milepost 98 fires.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 13 said the Devil’s Knob Fire is up to 23 percent containment while the Milepost 98 Fire is 63 percent contained.

Mop up and patrol continues around both fires as crews begin suppression repair in places that are further along. This work aims to return the fire area to a more natural habitiat. Resources will put in water bars for erosion control and flatten out any berms with bulldozer use. As firefighters dig and put out smoldering stumps and hidden heat, containment percentage will increase.

617 people are working on the Devil’s Knob Fire. Crews will continue to secure and strengthen hand line along the northeast edge of the fire. Firefighters were successful as they completed line around the last piece of perimeter to the south. Tethering operations along the Flat Creek drainage are ongoing. This operation is helping to complete a portion of line on challenging ground.

The Milepost 98 Fire has 128 people working on the incident. Crews are backhauling hoses, finishing mop up, and repairing hand and dozer lines. Interior smoke may be visible over the coming days but it is within the containment lines. Command of the fire will be transferred to the local unit on Monday morning for ongoing patrol.
