A Winston woman was jailed for allegedly stealing a pickup on Thursday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said the Roseburg Police Department had taken information about an unauthorized use of a vehicle case at 12:30 a.m. from a residence on Old Melrose Road.

A witness saw a picture of the pickup on social media and then saw the vehicle parked behind a residence in the 4000 block of Willis Creek Road near Winston. Deputies responded and saw 33-year-old Tabitha Burkhart allegedly actively spray painting the vehicle.

The vehicle reportedly left the property heading westbound on Willis Creek Road being driven by an unknown male. Deputies contacted Burkhart at the home, and she was taken into custody. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned off a Bureau of Land Management Road near Willis Creek Road.

Burkhardt was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, tampering with evidence, and first-degree criminal mischief. She was detained without bail.
