A rider was taken to the hospital after a bicycle versus vehicle accident on Monday.

A Roseburg Police report said at approximately 10:20 a.m. officers responded to the crash at the intersection of Northeast Winchester Street and Northeast Wright Avenue.

After an investigation, it was determined that the 45-year-old cyclist was operating his bicycle unsafely by traveling at approximately 30 miles per hour on the sidewalk, while going south on Winchester. A motorist saw the rider but thought he had enough time to get through the intersection. That resulted in the rider’s bike colliding with the driver side door of the car.

The cyclist was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. He was cited for unsafe operation of a bicycle on a sidewalk.
