The Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team #13 assumed command of both the Devil’s Knob and MP98 fires as of 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
The Devil’s Knob Fire in the Tiller area is estimated to be between 2,500 and 2.800 acres as of Saturday evening. On Saturday, crews on the northern part of the fire witnessed heightened weather-driven activity. Crews aggressively battled spot fires throughout the day and effectively trailed each known spot fire. The southwest part of the fire experienced little five activity. Crews assigned to this area continued to hold and strengthen lines. The southeastern part of the fire continues to experience the most weather-driven fire activity. However, on Saturday, it did not experience any large runs like previous days.
The Milepost 98 Fire in the Canyonville area is estimated at 250 acres. Ground and aerial resources continue to be utilized throughout the fire. On Saturday on the northern part of the fire, tethered logging machinery successfully removed hazardous trees, tying in with established dozer line. Hand crews will continue to tighten up areas that equipment cannot access.
Evacuees in need of assistance can contact the County Emergency Manager at 440-6025 or the Red Cross at 580-1857.
