A transient was jailed for a reported reckless burning incident on Tuesday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 8:30 p.m. fire crews responded to a brush fire outside a business in the 24000 block of North Umpqua Highway in Idleyld Park. When firefighters arrived, they found two people at the location.

The pair left before the deputies arrived.

Firefighters said it looked like a trash can was pushed into the brush which caused a 10 -foot by 10-foot fire. Two brush rigs and five fire personnel were at the scene.

The pair of suspects were located at a business in Roseburg. The woman admitted to throwing a cigarette butt into the trash can, which caught on fire. She said she was frustrated that the can was on fire, so pushed it into the brush. The woman said she was aware of the risk of burning.

The transient female was charged with reckless burning and detained without bail. She was released on Wednesday.
