TACTICAL BURNOUT OPERATIONS ON HOMESTEAD COMPLEX

September 5, 2024 11:00 a.m.

The Homestead Complex, burning on the Umpqua National Forest, remains 60 percent contained and at 5,926 acres.

A UNF update said the predicted hotter and drier weather has arrived and fire managers are taking advantage of the opportunity to conduct tactical burnout operations on the northernmost fire on the complex, the Horse Heaven Creek Fire. Smoke from the planned burnout, along with smoke from other fires in the region, will move westward due to easterly winds. Air quality can be expected to be moderate overall, potentially increasing to unhealthy at times over the next few days.

Fire updates:

*Horse Heaven Creek Fire is 2,304 acres and 64 percent contained.

*No Man Fire is 2,072 acres and 28 percent contained.

*Bullpup Fire is 473 acres and 17 percent contained.

*Fuller Lake Fire is 426 acres and 5 percent contained.
