HOMESTEAD COMPLEX CREWS ANTICIPATE HOTTER DRIER WEATHER

September 4, 2024 10:30 a.m.

The Homestead Complex, burning in the Umpqua National Forest is still at 5,918 acres and remains 60 percent contained.

A UNF update said the predicted hotter and drier weather the next few days may bring with it opportunities to conduct planned tactical burnout operations on the north flank of the Horse Heaven Creek Fire. Firefighters have been strengthening control lines as part of a larger strategic plan that includes being ready to conduct firing operations. Burnout operations are scheduled to begin Thursday and continue over multiple days this week.

Smoke and haze being seen in the area of the complex is from recent fire starts in eastern Oregon.

No acreage or containment changes are reported for the Horse Heaven Creek, No Man, Bullpup or the Fuller Lake fires.
