HEAT ADVISORY: AT AND NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES EXPECTED

September 2, 2024 3:40 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday for much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters said high temperatures of 100 to 105 degrees will be around 20 degrees above normal.

The Advisory area includes Douglas, Josephine, Jackson and eastern Curry counties.

At and near record high temperatures for the date are expected for Wednesday through Friday in the Umpqua Valley as the region is forecast to experience three days of heat.

Forecasters told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that upper high pressure building into the region combined with a surface thermal trough on the coast, keeping cooler marine air confined offshore, means Roseburg could see highs in the triple digits each one of those days.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
